Just in time for Halloween - A Literal Haunting

Have you read The Lovely Bones? I'm reading it right now and I have to confess that it's haunting me. In case you haven't read it - or seen the movie - it's the story of a young girl who is raped and murdered by her neighbor, and what happens to those around her in the aftermath while she watches from "heaven."

I confess I'm only halfway through, and while I can't put it down, it's freaking me out. Remember how I said that I'm overly emotional? Well, it applies here too. I can't help but imagine  myself in these situations and it gets me all worked up (plus it doesn't help that I have a seriously over active imagination), which then means that I can't sleep, which then means I toss and turn dreaming about this book, which means... well, you get the point.

Anyway, I'm desperately trying to finish the book so I can move on with my life, though I think this book will stay with me for a very long time.

Are there any books that have haunted and stayed with you for a while?

Oh so many books. The Kite Runner and The Awakening off the top of my head.

I loved that book! It was my first book club pick and it continues to stay with me. I rather liked the idea of picking your own Heaven.

I second the Kite Runner. It stayed with me. The Life of Pi is one that I cannot, will not get over it's awesomeness. I recommend it to everyone I know. Also, Wicked stuck with me because it's so different than what you imagine and is so much darker...I just never imagined sympathizing with the Wicked Witch of the West.

Also, a few books that are just good reads are Lamb (a funny look at the childhood of Christ by his fictional best friend, Biff), Water for Elephants, The Thirteenth Tale, Memoirs of a Geisha, and American Wife. All are good book club books that have stuck with me!

Jess, thanks for the great book recommendations! I've been contemplating Life of Pi, and now that you and Becky both suggest Kite Runner I'll add that to my list when I go back to the library.

As for picking your own heaven, I sort of like that idea as well.
